“NORTHERN AUSTRALIA’S PREMIER DROUGHTMASTER SALE”
It’s No. 1 in the North for Quality Bulls!
The MAGS Droughtmaster Sale enhanced the Northern Australian Stud Stock industry when it became part of the annual sale calendar in 2002 at Charters Towers, North Queensland. The Atkinson Family Vendors of the Sale chose the MAGS Sale designation to honour their family patriarch, Monty Atkinson, a Droughtmaster breed founder and renowned cattleman of Australia’s beef cattle industry.
The Sale commenced with a commitment to service cattle producers of Central and Northern Australia by offering annually, a large line of genetically strong, high quality, structurally sound, excellent temperament, majority poll, Droughtmaster Stud Sire prospects and Herd Bulls, backed by a proven reputation for high fertility; active paddock performance; and strong, market aligned, optimum beef performance of progeny.
The current Vendor group now comprising two studs. These are Mac & Gayle Shann, Lamont Stud, Clermont and also Kylie Graham, Mungalla Stud, Taroom. Kylie’s two children have also come on board with their two studs; Alrose Stud for Ally Graham and Monty Stud for Tom Graham. They are both looking forward to selling future sire prospects in the coming years at MAGS.
The Sale’s policy to not compromise on quality and to meet the market, whatever the seasonal or industry circumstances, is appreciated by an ever growing, loyal clientele of MAGS bull buyers drawn from as far away as the Northern Territory, Wide Bay, Darling Downs, Central Burnett, Atherton Tablelands, Cloncurry, Longreach, Callide Dawson, Arcadia Valley, Central Highlands and all local Northern regions.
The attraction of the MAGS event lies in the wide appeal and suitability of its offering. The Sale’s record shows that Studmasters, progressive commercial cattle producers and volume bull buyers will all buy well at this feature annual auction. At past sales Registered Bulls have sold from $3,000 to $60,000 and excellent Herd Bulls have sold in the range of $3,000 to $42,000.
Sale Vendors have a common creed – Sale bulls selected for MAGS must be: sound, free moving, well balanced and correct in conformation; active and fit; of naturally good disposition; attractive breed quality; of good skin and coat type; virile and fertile; of strong carcass qualities and natural weight for age performance; and, preferably poll. A November sale timing has also been welcomed by many bull buyers of the North as it better suits the joining season across much of the cattle country.
MAGS is not ALL bull sale however! It is the gathering of many cattle men and women and their families, prospective bull buyers from all over, Sale visitors and other cattle industry participants who recognise the hospitality, friendly welcome atmosphere of MAGS! Why don’t you come and join us this year? We invite all Droughtmaster Studmasters and cattle producers to MAGS to inspect and assess our bulls. The MAGS Vendor group will be at Dalrymple Saleyards, Charters Towers with our sizable, high quality line-up of bulls in mid-November each year. The large number of repeat buyers of our bulls, stud and commercial, reinforces our confidence in recommending MAGS bulls to work with success in your breeding program.
